Hair Care Tips for Summer

Natural Hair rules in the summer, Now is the season to let go of the perfect look that we all love and just embrace our natural hair. This is hard especially because I love my protective styles just because I don’t need to do anything to my hair. I like and enjoy to just get up and not worry about fixing anything as that takes more time.  I am going to provide some tips on how to keep your hair protected and healthy during the hot summer months. These tips are for all hair types and ethnicity.

  • Cover your hair, use a hat or scarf to cover your head while in the sun. The sun has UV’s that can cause damage to your hair just like your skin. I am not sure if you ever noticed your hair lighten up during the summer months this is why the sun is lifting your hair color.
  • Wash less, the more you shampoo your hair the fewer oils it will have, this will cause your hair to be really dry and we do not want that which will also lead to some breakage.
  • Reduce Heat, Try to blow dry your hair less often avoid too much of flat ironing your hair as well.
  • Condition always you can use an apple cider vinegar mix with water as a natural conditioner for your hair and scalp. You can also add an oil coconut or Shea butter just be cautious of the amount as a little does go a long way.
  • If you will be doing some swimming this summer make sure to add a leave-in conditioner in your hair. if your hair gets wet it will strip the conditioner and not your natural oils from your hair. after swimming rinse your hair with apple cider vinegar and water. following a deep conditioner and leave in.
  • Hot oil rinse using coconut oil, olive oil, or avocado oil is good all of these penetrate the hair shaft
  • If your hair stays dry doing the summer and you just need a quick refresher while in your natural state make a concoction of water, Aloe Vera juice, and avocado oil. Keep this on hand and spritz whenever a bit of moisture is needed.
